If he was doing his calculations right, and he was in the right place (he was fairly sure he was in the right place), Ezio should be able to catch sight of a particular meteor shower tonight around one in the morning. He'd brought a camera this time, intending to take both video footage and photos of the event, because, for no reason other than that he wanted to, Ezio felt like studying the meteors. There was no point in it whatsoever, but he just, felt like it. Then again, he was still an Ember, and did tend to do whatever the fuck he felt like, even if he'd pretend outwardly that there were external reasons.

Half the time, he was lying, and he was doing whatever it was merely because he felt like it.

Granite Falls was a notable vacation destination, and sometimes hikers and outdoors enthusiasts wandered through it. Sometimes you could catch a spellcaster wandering through looking for potion ingredients, because Granite Falls was at least rife with bug life, but Ezio didn't expect to run into anyone else tonight. It was like, nine in the evening already, and theoretically there were people still wandering around, but he'd thought he'd gotten himself far enough out of the way that no one would bother him much.

In the meantime, he sat on a hill, next to the tripod holding the video camera, with a sketchbook in hand. He was trying to draw the trees, but you know what, it was hard to draw something that was just black. So what was coming out instead was a rather detailed, for what it was, sketch of the dark treeline and the splatters of light and colour in the sky behind them. The sky was awake, for sure, and it was brilliant when it was. It was a shame he didn't bring any coloured pencils, but Ezio didn't have any anymore, he didn't think, just some paint.

It wasn't quite the same, really.

Weird creatures could be found here at night. It had been a long time since Emilia wandered this way, last time was probably when she was still living with the Charms in Glimmerbrook. Now Granite Falls was quite a walk all the way from Newcrest, no wonder she reached it only past sunset. It wasn’t scary here at night, Granite Falls being popular camping grounds with decent infrastructure for such a place, maintained and patrolled by rangers at any time. Actually it felt nicely empty here now that most campers went to their tents to tell their kids spooky ghost stories or read a book before sleep. Emilia could see some of those slightly glowing domes between the trees attracting all sorts of bugs.

Speaking of weird creatures, some bugs could definitely qualify. Of course, most of them were annoying buzzy, bitey or stinky little shits, but some were truly fascinating like Dragon Dragonfly that breathed actual fire, or Will-o-the-Wisps, or Dust Spirits. Those latter ones were rare and said to only come out at night, so Emilia was looking around attentively and walking a bit further from the main path and into the woods in hope of spotting them. Were they even insects or something else? It was an intriguing thought.

That’s how she stumbled upon this hill occupied by someone she apparently knew. Suppressing her puppy-like urge to run and loudly greet him (honestly, if she had a tail she’d be violently wagging it right now), Emilia remembered she had manners, calmly stepped a bit closer and cleared her throat. “Good evening, Ezio,” she greeted in a soft tone not to startle him, “what a surprise!” Weird creatures could be found here at night.

Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!

Fortunately, he wasn't so engrossed in sketching the dark tree-line that he didn't sense someone else wandering up. It was a familiar feeling, though, so he didn't startle or anything, glancing up at the trees, sketching a little more, and then he closed the book and slid his pencil into the spiraling, turning to look up at Emilia. It'd been a while since they'd spoken last. Actually, Ezio wasn't sure when that'd been. He vaguely recalled gently chastising her about abuse of needs potions. He'd be nice and not ask her if she was still abusing them. Wasn't like he could talk. Luck potions, and that. Not that he was entirely sure they worked anyway. (Needed more testing.)

"Yeah, I guess I don't get out enough huh?" he asked, sounding amused. "Just waiting for the meteor shower. And badly sketching the tree line. Did you know it's hard to add detail to something that's pretty much all black? Amazing." Well, his excuse was, he didn't do art very often. Kind of a shame, because he had a love of it, but sketching and painting, these things required tools to do it with. Granted, he didn't think Drake would complain much about buying him graphite pencils and sketch paper - at the moment, he was drawing with a regular #2 pencil and a regular sheet of printer paper - but that was beside the point. It was the asking part that bothered him. Or, Ezio maybe not so secretly felt like a drain on society. ... and Drake in particular. PFFT.

He'd never admit that.

"How've you been?" It'd been a while since they'd spoken, it was a logical thing to ask. Besides, it wasn't like he didn't want to know! And if there was something going on, maybe he could help. It was nice to do that when you could. (Emilia seemed to have an easier time asking him about certain things instead of Morgyn. Well go figure, Morgyn was a loaded cannon. A firecracker lit at both ends. You know.)
